The question was asked, “Are you concerned for America?” The answer is…

I am concerned for the souls of Americans, who think the most important thing is how much money they are making, how much influence they have, and how much they are recognized for all they do. This bent towards self-interest and awareness is a distraction from what should be the most important – the wealth and status of our souls.

Even if our culture encourages a “me first” attitude, that is not what we are instructed to focus on.  Matthew 6:33 says “Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.”

Are there things this country needs to change on a social, political, or economic level? I’m sure there are, but at the end of the day, all that matters is what we do with Jesus, and are we putting Him first? God help us all to get our eyes on Jesus. It’s not “me first”, its “Jesus first”. (Conviction fully in force on this end, I assure you.)

  1. Yes! The attitudes you mentioned have all but taken over. People worship “things” over God. Whether it’s a sports car or a golden calf it shows that our culture is in deep trouble.
But the current social/political climate has taken Bibles out of schools and courtrooms. Nothing Christian is welcome anywhere, so how can our youth learn what is good?
I have 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and I can tell you…kids are born seekers. They all ask so many good questions, things that would very much please God. Luckily, they were born into a family of generations of believers, so seeds are planted and Jesus blooms in their hearts.
But I pray for the little seekers, searching for God, who are born to indifferent parents. How will they find Him in this culture? They are our future…the future of our country. So, yes, I worry.
