feeling unloved

In this chapter Jacob arrives at his relatives property and meets Rachel at the well. As he spends time with them he falls in love with Rachel. But when it comes time to marry her he is tricked and ends up with Leah. I am not really sure what was meant by saying Leah had bad eyes. Maybe that she was not as pretty as Rachel? Does not matter though because we see here that she is feeling unloved by husband

But God sees this, how she is being treated unfairly and He blesses her. The blessing may not be an easy blessing for her to live with. After all God cursed women with painful childbirth. Then raising all the children while Jacob is out in the fields. One thing that gets me though, if Jacob did not love her then why did make it so that she could have so many children? What was his thinking? I guess maybe it was that in culture back then they did not have a way to divorce yet. He was just doing his duty as a husband.

Feeling Unloved by Husband

If he was just doing his duty just think of how devastating it was to Leah’s ego, her self worth. God knew she needed comfort. He also knew the bond between child and mother. To give her the love she yearned for, to show her that God sees her, He gave her many children.

I know when I felt unloved by my husband, even by the world I yearned for a child. I felt like at least that way someone would love me. But, the truth of the matter is that kids are hard work! Giving birth hurts more than some of the worst physical pain that is out there. Then raising them to be responsible adults takes every inch of energy out of a person.

What kind of blessing is that then? It is one of the best blessings I think. I feel I need to acknowledge those who cannot have children though. I know He has blessings for you that are beyond what anyone could imagine. He has a plan for everyone who believes in Him.

Feeling unloved by husband

Let’s go back to Leah though. She has not suffered through child birth and has all these kids to raise. I am pretty sure as she is human that at times she wondered if she could really make it through some days. She already was self conscious I am sure because of her looks and how Jacob complained about marrying her. Now her husband only sleeps with her out of duty and these kids are underfoot all the time. Even  resenting her as I am sure all kids go through those feelings at times.

feeling unloved by husband

Even through these struggling circumstances the Bible says God kept blessing her. He did not change the situation, maybe He even compounded it. But, because He had a plan and He saw she needed someone in her life to love her. He gave her child after child.

What I take from this chapter is that sometimes God’s blessings can add more responsibility. When that happens we may turn to grumbling against God. But if we can be like Leah and see each and every new child as God’s blessing what better attitude could that give us. Maybe God has you living in some poor conditions. If we look past the circumstances and see even the small blessings can help make things more bearable.

Are you able to look past your circumstances and see some positive. Something, some how see God’s hand is there with you still? If you need someone to pray and talk with you I am here for you.

promises of God

Promises of God

Today I am rejoicing in my dreams fulfilled. They are promises of God that He made me from the Bible and in my prayers. I would like to list some of the ones I am seeing today. God is not done with me yet, I do not believe He is done with anyone until they die. But, what I see today has me on fire for Him! Let’s see if I can help any of you catch the same fire.

Exodus 14:14 New Living Translation (NLT)

14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.

I cannot say I stayed calm most of my life. But, the Lord has fought for me. The change in my husband is beyond anything anyone could have done. The old husband is long gone. He focuses on me, and no longer is he looking at those ladies on the internet. He is taking responsibility for us as his family by looking for a home on his own. He is the one who calls me every day to study the Bible together. He has become a true man of God that I asked for years ago!

Promises of God

Isaiah 40:29 New Living Translation (NLT)

He gives power to the weak
    and strength to the powerless.

As I sit here I am weak. I can’t even barely walk, I am not known to people in my neighborhood. Even in Life Church I am pretty low on the totem pole. But, with His power, His words I have His strength to touch people through this site. I have His strength to raise 3 wonderful kids to adult hood and one on his way. I have His strength to help others on the internet, and to endure all the trials that are around me now.

Isaiah 41:10 New Living Translation (NLT)

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

I am no longer afraid. He brought me through so much in my life I know He will again. No, things are not easy, I still struggle. But, I look at everything in my past. I see how God provided homes, food, and safety for my kids. Those memories help me to trust this promise. I am not afraid of not living with my husband again, or not getting healthy. God gave me a home in three days once. If He can do that, He can open doors to my health and to a new home!

Isaiah 43:2 New Living Translation (NLT)

When you go through deep waters,
    I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
    you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
    you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.

Take a look at my stories under the category My Testimony. He truly was with me through deep waters, rivers of difficulty, and fires of oppression. No matter what I did, or anyone else did, we survived and thrived. I do not see how I could have done any of it without His help.

promises of God
Bright sunny day on the beach. A wave is breaking as it comes to shore. The words say God never breaks His promises.

These are just a few of the promises I can list and see examples in my own life. Could you do the same? What God has put on my heart is to color my Bible and journal in color. I will be coloring His promises in the Bible and listing where I see that promise in my journal. I am doing this so that I can properly thank Him for each and every fulfilled promise. If you are struggling to see your dreams fulfilled, where the open doors are or how to live for God maybe this is for you. Talk to God, listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and see if He wants you to journal His promises in your life. I am alive today all because of God’s faithfulness to His promises.

obey

Obey

This chapter we find Abraham getting ready to sacrifice his promised son, his heir. I think about this command from God as a parent myself and wonder just how could this be? The thought of giving up one of my children because God told me to, I am not sure I could do it. But maybe because God gave Abraham Isaac in his old age it was easier for him to obey God. The thought that if God could do that, it is possible He could do it again.

obey
Someone climbing a mountain and words in the sky say believe+love+obey=victory in Yeshua 1 John 5:1-5
Obey

I think about my own life, how many times have I done what God says just to obey? So much of my life I felt like I needed to be in control, to know what, and how something will happen. I thought it was the safe way to live as so much of my life things happened that were out of my control.

Before my teen years I was sexually abused by a family member, soon after a neighbor boy tried to take advantage of me. In my teen years a young man also sexually abused me along with my first husband. When I felt safe and could move on from all that I met my current husband and major sexual issues got in the way again.

I got to the point that so many things out of my control happened that I had to control everything in my life. Obeying God who did not reveal His plan was out of the question. I knew God was real, I had the God desire in my heart. But I was too hurt and afraid to blindly obey Him.

Obey

But, how did I get from my total mistrust to being able to trust and obey God today? I would say that it was seeing how God chose me and provided for me. There were so many times in raising my three adult children we should have been homeless. There was a time my children should have been placed in foster care. While it is true the circumstances warranted I needed to place only one, the other two stayed with me.

In seeing how God protected and orchestrated things around us I came to trust God. I learned that no matter what I did He would make His work out. Because of that I came to believe that doing things His way would make His plan much easier on me and those around us. That in doing things His way I gained peace, knowledge, hope beyond my understanding.

Obey

Are you able to obey God? Or are there thoughts and fears keeping you from trusting that God has this? Is there anything you would like prayer for, to talk about?

where is God

Where is God

It has been a crazy few days. My youngest getting sick and then sharing the germs with me. Then as I check the homes for sale I find a mobile home right across the street from my in laws! Perfect spot, perfect amount of space, and some possibility of being able to afford it. But, in that all my in laws are dealing with some pretty major health issues. Things that could affect their ability to help us. My emotions have been so up and down! I started wondering where is God in all this?!

My youngest son and I are pretty much over the cold. So, God helped us through that. But, soon after that my in laws were hit with health issues. Today my mother in law is going in for a test that could determine if she needs surgery or not. Also, my father in law is having trouble controlling his blood sugar levels. He has a month to get his A1c3 down or he could lose his commercial drivers license. That is his job! His business! Their only income! Where is God in all this?! What is God’s purpose in these struggles? Could He really have faith in us to hold true to Him?

In his worry my father in law starts to worry and try to control others around him. I and my daughter came to his mind. He knows how hard it is when starting out on your own. See, when my husband and I move in together my daughter will move to her own place for the first time in her life. You can read up more on her and the situation between my husband, and her disability under the key word my testimony. This worry of my father in laws lead him to try to tell me and her what needs to be done. Which triggered my emotional reaction of having someone tell me how to parent when I have been a single parent and raised her to adulthood. Where is God in these emotions? What is God’s purpose in these interactions?

I calmed down, prayed and talked to my mother in law. For right now they both seem to understand why things cannot be done the way he wants them done. But, now this mobile home I mentioned earlier. My hope, excitement and wanting to figure out just how that home can become ours was over the top. It would mean my in laws would not need to make all the renovations on their house to accommodate us moving in. But, we would still be right there to help each other. All day yesterday my thoughts were racing, I was checking things, talking, researching. All the while trying to say ok God, I know when I try to do things I mess them up you need to do it. But still I let my emotions take my research and thoughts to areas they should not have gone. Where is God in these emotions? What is God’s purpose?

What I have learned in my studies about God is that He uses you, He wants to use even you who is reading this right now. If you are like me in situations similar to what I described above you experienced overwhelming emotions too. How can He use you in these troubling times? What I see is that as we deal with the emotions we need to lean in more, to fight more to talk to Him. If all you can do is say Praise Jesus while trying to draw on His strength to find an even keel then do that. Once you find that center on God, is where He can use you.

where is God
A forest with the words “You can never go where God is Not” Max Lucado

Today, I have that center and I am seeing, for just this little bit, how God can use me. Through these emotions I felt God calling me to read His Word. To really study it and focus on Him. I did that. I am doing a read the Bible through a year plan on YouVersion Bible App, plus a study with my husband and a study with some church leaders. He calmed me down, reassured me that no matter what happens with my in laws health, or the mobile home He is still in control. I need to focus on the goals He gave me in life, not my goals. The first goal is to put Him first in everything, and then to live my life so others can see Him through me. So, I will pray for my in laws like never before. I will pray for the people who are in the mobile home as they are in financial trouble or more. I will trust that God will bring the home for my husband and I when we need it, not when we think it is best. In all this I have achieved joy God can only give.

Hung on a tree

Good Friday Holiday

Isaiah 53:3-9 3 He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. 4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all. 7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. 8 Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. 9 He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.

Mark 10: 34 34 They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip, and kill him, but after three days he will rise again.”

It makes me sick to my stomach to think of the pain Jesus went through on Good Friday. The name for this day is deceiving. What is pleasant about what happened to Jesus on this day. Yes, ok, I know it had to happen. I understand if He was not treated so He would not have risen on the third day. We would not have a way to be made right with God. But, let’s really reflect on what happened on this day.

They whipped Him until He was barely recognizable. Romans are known for their forms of inhumane torture. All this because the Jews were afraid of change, afraid people would side with Jesus and not them? This painful interruption multiplies joy. But, put yourself in the crowd. What feelings come up?

If I was there at the time and not knowing what I know now. Just a person in the crowd, I would have been angry. Knowing me I would not be out in the streets following the crowd. I would be hiding in my house trying to not know what is going on. That is normally how I react to tragedies going on around me. If I do not know the person I stay home, I pray for them, and move on with my life.

How callous of me, or is it fear? Fear of being involved, fear of not being able to do anything about it? Tell me the truth, how would you have reacted if you were in the crowd with Jesus carrying the cross? What would you have done on that first Good Friday Holiday?

But, what we do know now. We know God’s purpose in Jesus’s pain. We can experience joy God can only give. What guilt though that can bring up. For us, Jesus was tortured and died. Because of our evil nature Jesus was punished. How selfish we can be. Because we needed more than the perfect garden God gave us.

Good Friday Holiday
looking up at an empty cross from the ground

This Holiday lets reflect on our part of Jesus’s death. Ask for forgiveness. Really let Jesus search your heart. Let Him and what He went through change you from the inside out. If He has the power to go from that torture to bring in joy God can only produce, He has all the power to kill the sin that is holding us back today. I believe this is God’s purpose in putting the sins of the world on Jesus as He was crucified. So that our sins died right along with Him.
