What do we do when we are waiting for something to happen at some future time? Maybe it will happen? When will it happen? What will it look like? Will it be the way we think it will be? What do you do when you don’t know? Sometimes we just don’t have access to the playbook.
Psalms 130:5-6 “I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”
Psalms 27:13-14 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalms 37:34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Isaiah 30:18 Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.
God says in the Bible over and over do not fear, but sometimes that emotion is beyond our control. What do we do then? Do we just give in to our feelings? Allowing them to keep us from experiencing all that God has for us? Or, do we keep pushing forward beyond our fears? For me I lived by my feelings, they limited my life for so long. My anxiety held me back, and to sooth my fears I would eat. It became so disabling. I could not fully experience what God had for me.
is fear holding you back
Let me list a few of the Bible verses on what God says about fear:
Isaiah 35:4 New Living Translation (NLT)
4 Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”
John 14:27 New Living Translation (NLT)
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Joshua 1:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Matthew 6:34 New Living Translation (NLT)
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Isaiah 43:1 New Living Translation (NLT)
The Savior of Israel
43 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.
Psalm 34:4 New Living Translation (NLT)
4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.
is fear holding you back
I could list many more verses but there are too many for this article. God mentions fear over 500 times according to a Google search I just did. So this subject is huge in His eyes. Why do you think that is? What I think is that fear is what holds us back from fully experiencing God. He wants to bless us, to give us a life of peace and joy but if we let our emotions control us we cannot experience those positive aspects that can only come from God. We are not able to acknowledge the free gift thuat Jesus’ pain has given us.
is fear holding you back
Right now in my situation I could stay where I am and not let God help me grow more. The Lord is being faithful to the promise He gave me and leading my husband and I to our own home. But the details are so scary. I have been living under government assistance for all my adult life. Now my daughter is an adult and she is on my housing voucher with me. When I move I need to take my name off the voucher so she can use it on her own. The fear is that when I do that will I have to move right away. If I do, the house is not ready to be lived in. In order to look for apartments for my daughter to live in my name has to be off the voucher so landlords can see she has a legitimate way to pay rent. If we wait too long to look for an apartment for her she may not have one when she and both need to move out of our current apartment, then where will she go?
There are so many small details that have to work out just right for both of us. Details that only God can make just perfect. What I need to remember is that GOD IS IN CONTROL! God says do not fear so many times in the Bible. We are His creation, His precious people who He loves and cares for. He brought us to this, He will bring us through it.
What do you fear today? Is it holding you back from doing the next best thing the Lord wants you to do? How do you handle the emotion fear? Lets discuss this in the comments below or in our Life Group on Facebook.

The years between 2005 until now 2019 have been long and hard. We made a lot of mistakes in our marriage, but The Lord had a plan through it all. I had a glimpse of that plan when we separated in 2007, I fell to my knees cried out to God and He showed me we would live together in our own home and serve our community. The home you see on the end of the video is not finished, but we sign for it today. It is the home God promised me in 2007!
Through the years there has been much pain for us, our children and others who are close to us. I would like to say right now we are sorry. Sorry for our bullheadedness, my fear and control to try to deal with my fears. But, what satan stole from us thru temptations and sins God is now giving back 1000 fold. You see we do not deserve this home, what we should get for our sins is to live apart and struggling. But, just for our believing and trusting God He is blessing us.
God uses broken people like us. Already someone from the closest Salvation Army has agreed to give us a ride to church once we move into the home. I believe that is where we will be serving our community. I do not know much more than that right now but I trust as we do the next good step He will bless others with showing His power through us. Today we are going to sign the papers for the home. Work still needs to be done, it may take us a month to actually move in. But, I trust His timing and how God uses broken people to bless others around us.
A couple of weeks ago I found out I suffer from PTSD. That my trauma’s started in my youth. Don’t get me wrong, I know my parents did the best they could. My mother is a very strong woman who did her best to do right by me and the family. My father admitted and he got help for his part in it all. After all, was said and done is a wonderful man now. This is not to talk about how bad my family was, it is to talk about how everything affected me and what are PTSD symptoms.
Do you identify with this video in any way? Please know there is help out there for you and I would love to help you find that. Where it started for me is being fed up with where my marriage is at and seeking Christian counseling. That is where I learned about what are PTSD symptoms with this video:
My trauma’s started early in life when I was a toddler I met my stepdad. I am not going to go into all the details that are not needed. Just to let you know it involved exposure visual adult sexuality then few later sexual abuse. I want to remind everyone. I am not trying to say my parents are monsters. They are far from that, my mom is a strong woman who did her best to protect me with everything that was going on around her. My stepdad had an illness that after all came out he got help for. I honor them for that!
But, because I or no one around me really understood how everything affected me I was left to struggle with the after-effects of everything. Which led me to many damaging relationships with men. Rape, sexual abuse, my anger coming out as abuse towards my first husband. Sexual issues in my current marriage. One thing after another right up until recently. I have about 45 or so years of living in survival mode to try to deal with.
What Are PTSD Symptoms and How To Be Grateful For Them
How to be grateful for all of this? I never thought I would put gratefulness with everything I have been through. I never dream I could come close to finding anything to be happy about ever. I lived with depression, pain, hurt, anger, fear for so long. I never knew any different. But, I am grateful for it all!
I am grateful for the experience because God uses all our experiences to His Glory. What a powerful thing it is to be used for His Glory! The creator of the world is wanting to use me with all my sins, all my pain, all my ugliness.
I am grateful for showing me what a wonderful husband God has given me. Even though my husband may have contributed to some of my trauma God once again is using that. He is using my husband and me for something wonderful. We do not see it yet, but we know God has a plan.
If you also suffer from PTSD or think you do, please seek help, professional help. You cannot do this alone. The place that God led my husband I to is Faithful Counseling

Day 34 of 100 prophecies – Someone will prepare for the coming of Jesus
Is. 40:3-5 – A voice cries out: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5 Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Mat. 3:3 – This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
Mark 1:3 – the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,’”
Luke 3:3-5 – the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,’”
John 1:23 – He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’” as the prophet Isaiah said.
Day 33 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – healer, savior, does miracles. Jesus did and still performs miracles!
Is. 35:4-6 – Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.” 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;
Mat. 9:30 – And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly ordered them, “See that no one knows of this.”
11:4-6 – 4 Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. 6 And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”
12:22 – Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute, and he cured him so that the one who had been mute could speak and see.
20:34 – Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they regained their sight and followed him.
21:14 – The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he cured them.
Mark 7:32-35 – They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
John 9:1-7 – As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, 7 saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.
A child to be born to us – Day 10 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus
Is. 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Luke 2:11 – Today in the City of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!
Day 9 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – to be born of a virgin
9.) Be born of a virgin – Is. 7:13-14; Mat. 1:18-23; Luke 1:27-35
Is. 7:13-14 – Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God as well? 14Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virginwill be with child and will give birth to a son, and she will callHim Immanuel.
Mat. 1:18-23 – This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with Child through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly.
20 But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus because He will save His people from their sins.”
22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).
Luke 1:27-35 – to a virgin pledged in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 So the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, 33and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!”
34“How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be bornwill be called the Son of God.
Who do I want to be like when I grow up? I want to be like Miss Doris.
This week I was blessed to be able to sing for the senior luncheon at a local church. It was about a month ago that I got a call from Miss Doris, the lady who plans the programs and gets people to come to speak or entertain.
Who do I want to be like when I grow up?
Miss Doris is living out the tagline of this website- still producing fruit in old age. “How old”, you may ask? Miss Doris is 94 years old! Clearly, she was in charge that day. She was sharp as a tack. Yes, she was in a wheelchair and kept repeating herself about where she lived, but she was still in the zone. She has been getting people to come to the luncheons to entertain since 2003. I want to be that capable and spirited at 94 years old.
Who do I want to be like when I grow up?
I also want to be like Miss Hetti, who is 95 and still drives to work out at the senior center!
May God grant us the grace to stay as strong and vibrant as possible for as long as possible, because with God all things are possible!
