Day 5 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – born of the tribe of Judah

Be born of the tribe of Judah – Gen. 49:8-10; Micah 5:2
NT – Mat. 1:2, 3 ; Heb. 7;14; Rev. 5:5

Gen. 49:8-10 – 8Judah,b your brothers shall praise you. Your hand shall be on the necks of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down to you. 9Judah is a young lion— my son, you return from the prey. Like a lion, he crouches and lies down; like a lioness, who dares to rouse him? 10The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the staff from between his feet,c until Shiloh comes and the allegiance of the nations is his.

Micah 5:2 – But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come forth for Me One to be ruler over Israel, whose origins are of old, from the days of eternity.

Mat. 1:2, 3 – Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers. Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram.

Heb.7;14 – For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, a tribe as to which Moses said nothing about priests.
Rev. 5:5 – Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has triumphed to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

  1. The Old Testament prophets knew that the Messiah was coming. They knew where He would be born and from whom He would descend. The people of the Old Testament, our spiritual forefathers, waited for that consolation. In desperation, they hungered and thirsted for His coming. They prayed for it! We can look at it all in light of what we now know and see the fulfillment of those prophecies and prayers in The Person of Jesus. The people of old waited in hopeful expectation for the coming of the Promised One. In contrast, we know Him and can call him Brother/Father/Savior. We are blessed to have the opportunity to share an intimate relationship with Him that they could only imagine. May we always keep the wonder and gratitude in our hearts and realize how God has blessed us. 💙
