Day 94 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – be the promised redeemer

the promised redeemer

Job 19:25-27 – “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
26 “Even after my skin is destroyed,
Yet from my flesh I shall see God; 27 Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!
the promised deliverer from our sins

Ps. 130:7-8 – “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth. 26 “Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God; 27 Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!
                                 the guaranteed assured redeemer
Is. 59:20 – “A Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares the Lord.

Gal. 4:4-5 –  But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
the promised redeemer

Titus 2:13-14 – looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

May we be a people that are zealous for good deeds for Jesus. With His help, we can be.

A question for all site members – what can you tell us about your state?  (geographically, that is)

your state

          Map of Mississippi

I got a great idea from one our site members today, a request for information about your state. I will start the ball rolling. Others chime in by hitting “leave a comment” below. Tell us about your state. (I’m not referring to the state of confusion we all visit or the state of repair it may seem we live in. 🙂 I’m talking geography.

I live in the state of Mississippi, and have been here for several years. What is Mississippi like? One word would describe it – hot! Well there are other words I could add, like “humid”, but I digress.

Mississippi is a great place to live. Yes it gets hot and humid, but every state has its challenges. The people here are great. One can enjoy true Southern hospitality from most people. They will take the time to answer your questions and will help you if they can. There is a great senior center here and people are ready, willing, and able to learn new things.  That includes Miss Hettie, who is 96 and still exercises with us and attends Bible study on Tuesday morning.

What is it like where you live? Again, just “leave a comment” below. You have to be signed in to comment.

Blessings,
Pastor John

God did what we could not do. He traded our sins for His righteousness.

His righteousnessI am acceptable in Christ

I want to share five scripture passages that talk about the way to be acceptable in Christ. See what you think.

1.) Titus 3:5 – “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

2.) Eph. 2:8-9 – “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

3.) Rom. 5:8 – “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

4.) Acts 16:31 – And they said “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

5.) 1 John 5:13 – “These things have been written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Day 92 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – Be a prophet like Moses

a prophet like Moses                                                   A prophet like Moses

Deut. 18:18-19 – ‘I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19‘It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.

John 6:14 –
When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”

Editor’s note: I think it was really cool that Moses met up with Jesus at the Mount of Transfiguration. This prophecy about Jesus is that He would be like Moses. Maybe some people thought He was.

Day 91 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – Be called “I Am” Jehovah – the great I Am

I am Jehovah

                                      I am Jehovah

Exodus 3:13-15 – Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?” 14God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.

Luke 22:70 – They all shouted, “So, are you claiming to be the Son of God?” And he replied, “You say that I am.”

John 8:24, 58 – Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”

Important scriptures relating to Salvation, Assurance, Obedience, and Peace

important scripturesSeveral years ago a friend of mine in Africa sent me a list of scriptures relating to the topics above – salvation, assurance, obedience, and peace. Today I am going to share the first four. I post these in an effort to get people focused on the gospel and the relationship we have in Christ. The first is the most famous.

Obedience and peace

John 3: 16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Rom. 3:10 – “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.”

Rom. 3:23 – “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Rom. 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.”

Obedience and peace

The scriptures above speak of a relationship that is broken (because of sin), but can be restored through the gift. We go from the wages (well earned, well deserved wages of sin), to the gift (freely given, never earned, not deserved.) That is quite a contrast – earned vs. given, wages vs. gift, sin vs. grace. Oh how we need that grace, and how freely it is given.

feeling unloved

In this chapter Jacob arrives at his relatives property and meets Rachel at the well. As he spends time with them he falls in love with Rachel. But when it comes time to marry her he is tricked and ends up with Leah. I am not really sure what was meant by saying Leah had bad eyes. Maybe that she was not as pretty as Rachel? Does not matter though because we see here that she is feeling unloved by husband

But God sees this, how she is being treated unfairly and He blesses her. The blessing may not be an easy blessing for her to live with. After all God cursed women with painful childbirth. Then raising all the children while Jacob is out in the fields. One thing that gets me though, if Jacob did not love her then why did make it so that she could have so many children? What was his thinking? I guess maybe it was that in culture back then they did not have a way to divorce yet. He was just doing his duty as a husband.

Feeling Unloved by Husband

If he was just doing his duty just think of how devastating it was to Leah’s ego, her self worth. God knew she needed comfort. He also knew the bond between child and mother. To give her the love she yearned for, to show her that God sees her, He gave her many children.

I know when I felt unloved by my husband, even by the world I yearned for a child. I felt like at least that way someone would love me. But, the truth of the matter is that kids are hard work! Giving birth hurts more than some of the worst physical pain that is out there. Then raising them to be responsible adults takes every inch of energy out of a person.

What kind of blessing is that then? It is one of the best blessings I think. I feel I need to acknowledge those who cannot have children though. I know He has blessings for you that are beyond what anyone could imagine. He has a plan for everyone who believes in Him.

Feeling unloved by husband

Let’s go back to Leah though. She has not suffered through child birth and has all these kids to raise. I am pretty sure as she is human that at times she wondered if she could really make it through some days. She already was self conscious I am sure because of her looks and how Jacob complained about marrying her. Now her husband only sleeps with her out of duty and these kids are underfoot all the time. Even  resenting her as I am sure all kids go through those feelings at times.

Even through these struggling circumstances the Bible says God kept blessing her. He did not change the situation, maybe He even compounded it. But, because He had a plan and He saw she needed someone in her life to love her. He gave her child after child.

What I take from this chapter is that sometimes God’s blessings can add more responsibility. When that happens we may turn to grumbling against God. But if we can be like Leah and see each and every new child as God’s blessing what better attitude could that give us. Maybe God has you living in some poor conditions. If we look past the circumstances and see even the small blessings can help make things more bearable.

Are you able to look past your circumstances and see some positive. Something, some how see God’s hand is there with you still? If you need someone to pray and talk with you I am here for you.

Day 90 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – Be struck on the head

struck on the head

                              Struck on the head

Micah 5:1 – Marshal your troops now, city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod.

Mat. 27:30 – And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it.

Jesus’ tormentors just couldn’t get enough of hurting Jesus. In addition to everything else, they struck him on the head. What is amazing is that Jesus said “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”

Day 89 of 100 prophecies – Shepherd smitten and deserted, sheep scattered

sheep scattered

                                             Sheep dispersed

Zech. 13:7 – “Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!” declares the LORD Almighty. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

Mat. 26:31, 56; On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 56 But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.

Mark 14:27 ; And Jesus says to them, “You will all fall away, for it has been written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

John 16:32 – “Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
