a stone of stumbling

stone of stumbling

Day 28 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus, who was a stone of stumbling to the Jews

  • Is. 8:14 –  He will become a sanctuary, a stone one strikes against; for both houses of Israel he will become a rock one stumbles over—a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
  • Rom. 9:31-33 –  but Israel, who did strive for the righteousness that is based on the law, did not succeed in fulfilling that law. 32 Why not? Because they did not strive for it on the basis of faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 as it is written, “See, I am laying in Zion a stone that will make people stumble, a rock that will make them fall,     and whoever believes in him[a] will not be put to shame.”

  • 1 Pet. 2:7-8 – To you then who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner,”  and “A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

a prophet like Moses
  • Day 27 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – people’s hearts are hardened.

  • Is. 6:9-10 – And he said, “Go and say to this people: Keep listening, but do not comprehend; keep looking, but do not understand.’10 Make the mind of this people dull, and stop their ears, and shut their eyes, so that they may not look with their eyes, and listen with their ears, and comprehend with their minds, and turn and be healed.”

Mat. 13:13-15 – The reason I speak to them in parables is that ‘seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.’ 14 With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says: ‘You will indeed listen, but never understand, and you will indeed look, but never perceive. 15 For this people’s heart has grown dull,  and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; so that they might not look with their eyes,    and listen with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn— and I would heal them.’

John 12:37-40 – Although he had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in him. 38 This was to fulfill the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah:

“Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” 39 And so they could not believe, because Isaiah also said, 40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they might not look with their eyes, and understand with their heart and turn—and I would heal them.”

Acts 28:24-27 –  Some were convinced by what he had said, while others refused to believe. 25 So they disagreed with each other; and as they were leaving, Paul made one further statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah, 26 ‘Go to this people and say, You will indeed listen, but never understand,     and you will indeed look, but never perceive. 27 For this people’s heart has grown dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; so that they might not look with their eyes and listen with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn—and I would heal them.’

Prayer: “Lord, keep us from having heard hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

  • Day 26 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus – was to enter the temple.

  • Ps. 118:26 – Blessed is this one who comes to us, the sent one of the Lord. And from within the temple, we cry, “We bless you!”

  • Haggai 2:7, 9 – and I will shake all the nations, so that the treasure of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with splendor, says the Lord of hosts; 9 – The latter splendor of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts; and in this place I will give prosperity, says the Lord of hosts.

    Mal. 3:1 –
See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

  • Mat. 21:12-16 – Then Jesus entered the temple[a] and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 He said to them, “It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer’;    but you are making it a den of robbers.” 14 The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he cured them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the amazing things that he did and heard[b] the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became angry 16 and said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise for yourself’?”

  • Mark 11:11 – Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

  • Luke 2:25-47 –  Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon;[a] this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.[b] 27 Guided by the Spirit, Simeon[c] came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, 28 Simeon[d] took him in his arms and praised God, saying,

29 “Master, now you are dismissing your servant[e] in peace,     according to your word; 30 for my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” 33 And the child’s father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed 35 so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—and a sword will pierce your own soul too.” 36 There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 At that moment she came and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.  39 When they had finished everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. 40 The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.  41 Now every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. 43 When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. 44 Assuming that he was in the group of travelers, they went a day’s journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

  • Luke 19:45-47 – Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; 46 and he said, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’;
    but you have made it a den of robbers.” 47 Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him;

I am needing prayer for clarity as I get ready for Medicare in two months. I am eligible for Medicare, effective Aug. 1. (My 65th birthday is August 2). There are so many things to keep track of, questions to ask, benefits to try to get. It is just a couple of weeks ago that I learned that Medicare operates under the Social Security Administration.

Today I talked to someone from Social Security about trying to get “extra help” for Part D (prescriptions). I thought it would be for extra help on Part B – the medical part of Medicare. It is all so confusing.

Please pray for clarity, direction, and peace. I know God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. (1 Cor. 14:33)

I went to the doctor’s office today, and I am thankful for quick relief.

It started on Friday when Karen and I pulled out some vines that were wrapped around some lilies at  Karen’s mom’s house. Her mom’s name is Jackie.

doctor's office
On Saturday, my hand started to itch a little bit, but not too bad. On Sunday, my hands started to swell up. Today I went to the pharmacist and asked for a recommendation. He said to go to TrustCare clinic. (I am still in the process of trying to establish a regular doctor who accepts new patients.) TrustCare took me right in. I was able to get the shot (for itching and swelling), plus a prescription for steroids, which I started when we got home. I am very thankful the Lord led our steps to this doctor, clinic, and pharmacy so I could get some relief. The swelling is really irritating. I am supposed to keep my hands elevated (may help my praise life!) and keep a cool compress on them. Once I get finished with this post, I will do that very thing!

Thank you for your prayers for healing and relief. I pray the same for you, whoever you are. God be with you. He is faithful.

Day 24 of 100 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus –
“will pray for His enemies”

pray for
Ps. 109:4 – In return for my love they act as my accusers; But I am in prayer.

Mat. 5:44 –
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Luke 23:34 – But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

Jesus prayed for His enemies and told us to love and pray for ours too. When you pray for your enemies, it softens your own heart. It also helps you pour out your heart to God.
